SoyFuze VS. HydraSoy: A Real-World Comparison of Soy-Based Roof Rejuvenation

As roof rejuvenation continues to grow in popularity, contractors and property owners are looking for solutions that not only restore aging shingles—but also deliver consistent, long-term performance.

Two products often discussed in this space are SoyFuze and HydraSoy. We here at SoyFuze have actually been asked…

Why does 1 Gallon your product (SoyFuze) only cover 400 to 500 sf?  Is your product less concentrated?

While both fall into the same category of soy-based roof rejuvenation treatments, the key differences lie in application philosophy, dilution strategy, and long-term results.

Let’s break it down.

What Soy-Based Roof Rejuvenation Actually Does

Before comparing products, it’s important to understand the science.

Asphalt shingles naturally lose oils over time due to UV exposure and weathering. This leads to brittleness, granule loss, and eventual failure. Soy-based rejuvenators work by:

  • Penetrating the shingle
  • Replenishing lost oils
  • Restoring flexibility, water resistance, and granular adhesion

This process can extend roof life by several years when applied correctly.

Similar Chemistry, Different Strategy

Both SoyFuze and HydraSoy are designed as penetrating, soy-based treatments that:

  • Absorb into asphalt shingles from tthe top surface layer to the bottom
  • Restore flexibility and granular adhesion
  • Improve resistance to moisture and weather

HydraSoy specifically emphasizes:

  • A soy-based penetrating formula that replenishes oils at a molecular level
  • Improved granule adhesion and reduced brittleness
  • Eco-friendly, plant-based composition

From a formulation standpoint, products in this category—including SoyFuze—operate on very similar chemical principles.

The real difference comes down to how the product is applied in the field.

So….., Is SoyFuze less Concentreated than HydraSoy?

The quick and easy answer is actually, NO!  SoyFuze is not diluted at all, it is PURE.  Than why does SoyFuze cost less?  And why is the coverage so much lower?

Dilution & Application: Where the Gap Shows

HydraSoy’s Recommended Approach

HydraSoy is sold as a concentrate and recommends:

  • Dilution ratio: approximately 1:4 (product to water)
  • Coverage: up to ~2,000 sq. ft. per gallon of concentrate once diluted

This approach:

  • Maximizes coverage per gallon to look like a better value
  • Allows contractors to treat more roofs with less product (putting it on very lightly)
  • Positions the product as efficient and scalable

Please understand, the recommendation is simply to cover 2000 SF with one gallon that is diluted down further.  What this math works out to, is a recommendation of putting the soy treatment on at about 1/5 the amount of product into your shingles.  As an applicator ourselves for over 4 years, this amazes us to be honest!

Basically, you are mysting the shingles, not saturating them with everything they can asorb!

SoyFuze Approach (Professional Application Model)

SoyFuze takes a different direction—aligning more closely with large-scale, franchise-level application standards:

  • Lower dilution (more active material per square foot)
  • Heavier, more consistent application rates
  • Designed to match real-world contractor application standards used in high-performance systems!

Why Application Rate Matters

This is an important and often overlooked factor in roof rejuvenation.

A lighter application may:

  • Provide visible short-term improvement
  • Stretch product further per gallon

But it can also:

  • Reduce penetration depth
  • Limit oil restoration inside the shingle
  • Shorten the effective lifespan of the treatment

A heavier, professional-grade application (like SoyFuse promotes) is designed to:

  • Deliver deeper saturation into the asphalt layer
  • Restore more of the lost oils
  • Provide longer-lasting performance under real weather conditions

Performance Expectations: Short-Term vs. Long-Term Thinking

HydraSoy states that treatments can extend roof life by 5+ years per application depending on conditions.

That aligns with general industry expectations.

However, the consistency of achieving that lifespan often depends less on the product itself and more on:

  • Application rate
  • Surface preparation
  • Environmental conditions

SoyFuze is positioned around controlling those variables by guiding users toward professional-grade application standards from the start.

Cost vs. Value: What Contractors Should Consider

At a glance, a higher dilution product may appear more cost-effective because:

  • It covers more square footage per gallon
  • It reduces upfront material cost per job

But in practice, contractors should evaluate:

  • How long the treatment actually lasts
  • Reapplication Efforts, Warranty Fullfillment
  • Customer satisfaction over time

A system designed for maximum coverage and a system designed for maximum durability can lead to very different long-term outcomes.

ACTUAL COST

When it comes to actual cost, the coparison is very easy.  HydraSoy is $325 per gallon.  SoyFuze for the same comparable product is a little over $100 per gallon.  The only REAL WORLD differnece is the dilution and application.  So if you really wanted to go through all the effort to treat your roof for shorter term results, you would actually be better off purchasing SoyFuze and putting it on lighter to match HydraSoy application rates.  HOWEVER, we here at SoyFuze think if you are going to go through the effort to treat your shingles.  Why not get the best, long lasting and durable results possible?  We highly recommend applying at the professional level that has proven long term history of rejuvenation.

The Bottom Line

Both SoyFuze and HydraSoy operate in the same category and rely on similar soy-based chemistry to rejuvenate asphalt shingles.

The difference isn’t what’s in the jug (both are non diluted concentrate) – the differnece is:

👉 Application Standards
👉 How much material reaches and saturates the shingles from Top to Bottom
👉 And how long the results actually last

  • Your goal is a professional-grade durability and long-term performance.  SoyFuze is built with application methods that mirror large-scale, high-performance contractors methods.  Value and affordability are better here when looking at the facts

Final Thought

In roof rejuvenation, the product matters of course—but application matters even more.

Be very careful of what we call MARKETING WIZARDERY.  When manufactures use a lot of terms about UV addidative (we tested in long term results UV additives do nothing.  Research for yourself, even the syrongest UV inhibitors last 6 months or less.  Well guess what, the first 6 months the Soy Treatment is at it strongest.  SoyFuze has now been tested over 4 years and is showing the longevity is there for 5 or more years of rejuvenation with ease in most locations.  Remeber different parts of the country may have very different weather and sun exposure.

Don’t let mearketing wizardry fool you, Soy Methyl Ester and the ability to get it through the shingle from top to bottom is what really matters with these treatments.  So give your roof or your customers roof the best, don’t skimp out and over pay for a gallon of basically the same stuff!
