PRI Asphalt Technologies Testing in 2022
- PRI is a national and global leader in materials testing and performance. PRI provides accredited, independent, third-party testing, evaluation, and technical services to the Asphalt/Bitumen, Building Materials, Chemical, Construction/Infrastructure, and Energy Markets.
PRI Overall Results & Conclusions (shingles treated were a 20% final soy content)
- Mass Loss (losing asphalt to oxidation, binder, and granular loss) The TREATED Shingle performed 10.8 times Better! The untreated shingle lost 5.4 % as the treated shingle only lost 0.5% of its Mass! HUGE DIFFERENCE
- Wash Off Material (particulates collected after 1500 hours of accelerated wash down) The TREATED Shingles performed 5.8 times Better! Untreated lost 4.08 grams compared to a treated shingle only losing 0.7 grams! Remarkable Difference.
- Oxidation Aging (1500 hours of high exposure to UV) The TREATED Shingles performed 3.9 times Better! Untreated had a 30.7% increase in the carbonyl index test, while the treated shingles only 7.8% = The sun does less damage
- Flexibility (after 1500 hours of the same exposure as above) The treated shingled improved low temperature flexibility.
- Color and Appearance (after 1500 hours the treated shingles have a significantly different appearance). This is due to less oxidation and having more internal oils present.
